DAILY NOTICES – FRIDAY – 15 MARCH 2013 – DAY 2

NCEA ASSEMBLIES – these will be held for the three year levels to explain the requirements for each qualification
Year 13 – Tuesday 19 March
Year 12 – Wednesday 20 March
Year 11 – Thursday 21 March
All students at each level please attend these assemblies during form time on the appropriate days – be prompt at 8. 45am.

WHOLE SCHOOL: ID Card Catchup – your ID cards have arrived please pick up from the office, if you have not paid, please bring your $5. Thank you.

WHOLE SCHOOL: The team from ZM are bringing their Mr Whippy Van to our school to give us free ice cream and other giveaways!” Friday lunchtime.  Mr Whippy plans to be in the old car park by the assembly hall.

WHOLE SCHOOL: Lost and Found  2 pairs of reading glasses have been handed in to the office.

YEAR 10 AND 11: Want to learn more about France? Enjoy French culture? Want to visit Paris?  With enough interest, we have a great opportunity to take part in a 5 weeks exchange with a school in Paris (5 weeks receiving a French student, 5 weeks with French student in Paris). Interested? Write your names and details on the form in reception- Mrs Andrews.

SHEILAH WINN SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL: Girls who are performing must attend an important meeting today at lunchtime.  It is vital that you attend.  Girls that are not performing but have entered other Shakespeare categories must also attend.  Lunchtime promptly in P11.  See you there.

NEED A PLACE TO STUDY? Computer Lab C4 and Room C5 will be available on Tuesday 19th and 26th March until 4.30pm as a two week trail initiative.  Academic  Prefects will be on hand to supervise and offer help where possible.  Hope to see some on you take advantage of this service.

BOLLYWOOD DANCE: helpers meeting on today Friday this week at lunchtime in D15.  Be prepared to discuss about some fundraising ideas.

CHINESE NIGHT COMMITTEE: students who are in the Chinese Night committee, list will be up on the A block notice board today.  There will be a meeting next week when and where will be confirmed early next week.

PASIFIKA CULTURE GROUP- we have a uniform fitting today FRIDAY 15TH MARCH in GYM 2 after school. If you can’t make it see Mrs Holliday. Need to sort uniforms for the Pasifika Parents Evening on the 28th March.

INSPIRE: Inspire is a Christian Group open for anyone to come, its on every Friday lunchtime in B1 so feel free to come join us.

JAPANESE BUDDIES: A big thank you to all you wonderful people who have been a buddy for the Japanese students.  Don’t forget to meet them, for the last time, outside the tuckshop at the beginning of lunch time today. 

ALL PACIFIC ISLAND & MAORI STUDENTS: We have an incredible motivational speaker coming in Wednesday 13TH MARCH. He is funny, smart and very captivating. AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS- please deposit President Obama postcards in letterbox outside A20 by Tuesday at interval. If you didn’t get one there are blank postcards in the clear pocket next to letterbox. Reminder to join up to Facebook group and pay $5. Leaders will be collecting $5 and giving out badges in A20 at lunchtime on Tues 19th March at lunchtime.

PHILOSOPHY CLUB – The discussion topic for today Friday is – To be Socialist or not to be Socialist, that is the question.

2013 CHINESE NIGHT AUDITIONS: all students willing to perform on this year’s Chinese Night, audition M Block at Westlake Boys on the 22nd March. Any questions or if you can’t attend, contact Belinda Han on 021 263 3383.

STAGE CHALLENGE: practices begin next week Monday and Wednesday 3.30 after school until 5.00pm.  We expect to see everyone there as we are learning dances. Bring a water bottle and appropriate clothing. No School Uniform.

MUSIC

CANTARE CHOIR: No rehearsal on Wednesday 20th but all to attend lunchtime rehearsal Tuesday 19th in M2 please.

CAREERS

KENNEL GIRL ROLE. Thank you to all the eager applicants. Your applications have been sent to Forest Hill Veterinary Clinic and they will make contact with you directly, if you have been selected for an Interview with them.

YEARS 11,12 & 13  If you did not get an STS brochure on student exchanges at lunchtime yesterday, you can pick one up from the Careers Room bench.

SPORT

KILIKITI (SENIORS ONLY) There will be a trial held on Monday at lunchtime 12.30pm on the soccer field. Then if selected there will be a practice on Thursday lunchtime same time. If you are going to trial then you will need to be their promptly ready to go. Please wear PE shorts & tops thank you. Any queries please see Mrs Kelly in the Sports Department M9.

DRAGON BOATING: The Auckland Dragon Boating Association are looking for girls and boys interested in Dragon Boating, to compete for an U23 Dragon Boating Team.  You must be aged 16 and over.  Trainings are held on  Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6.30 – 8pm at Westhaven Marina.  If interested please contact Kit 021 139 5544  or Shivani 021 276 6457 directly or for further information see the facebook page (U23 Dragon Boating)

DESTINAION UNKNOWN: (YMCA North Shore Raise Up and Represent) an amazing race around the north Shore, Teams of four aged 13-18 years follow the clues, do challenges and head towards the unknown destination! The race begins at Takapuna Beach on the 6th April Saturday near the changing rooms. Cost is $10 per person. Registration form from the Sports Department. Hand in forms to WGHS representatives Alice All free, Carol Lee, and Vyoma Nupur.

BADMINTON SENIOR SCHOOL SENIOR A, B and C:  Ladder trials for Senior A and B continue this Thursday 14 March, and 29 March. Senior C Year 12 on Monday 18 March in our gym. REMEMBER TO PAY YOUR FEES OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE IN A TEAM. Pay by 5 April. No later.

HOCKEY: Please remember to return your forms to the sports department. Trials will be held on Monday 18th March for the 1st and 2nd XI and on Tuesday the 19th for the 3rd XI, Seniors and juniors. If you are unable to make any of these days please see Miss Sharland. There will be call back trials for the 1st and 2nd XI on Thursday next week. It is important that you return your form to the sports department before the trials. Also there will be a meeting on Friday lunchtime in gym 3 for all hockey players.

NETBALL (Senior Trials Sign Ups for Premier 1, 2, 3 & Seniors) Senior students can sign up at the Sports Department M9 if you want to trial out for a Westlake Netball Team this year. Please note that there are 2 sign up lists. One for Premiers and one for Seniors. Please make sure you collect a netball newsletter regarding important dates and fees for the season.

NETBALL (SOCIAL TEAMS SENIORS ONLY) If you wish to enter a Social team into the netball competition please see Mrs Kelly.

YEAR 9 NETBALL GIRLS: All Year 9 netball players must ensure the size up for their netball dress in the uniform shop this week. Cost of dress is $83.00, which can either be paid in full or on layby with full amount paid prior to the netball season commencing.

WHOLE SCHOOL: Zumba Dance Fitness classes at Westlake. Every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6.30pm and Saturday mornings from 9.20am. Come along to Gym 2 in comfy clothes and running shoes. Bring water and a yoga mat or towel Classes cost $5 and run for an hour.
